Congratulations to everyone that did good (Ben you rock!!!), but there were a lot of injuries. Fistfull (Rick) had a shock blow out that sent him over the bars flat out. He explained the E.R. at Showlow to be like a bad Whiplash reunion. My friend Jerry Kyle (#828) also had a nasty get off that sent him to the ER for the night. Todd Johnson(Popsracing)blew his engine sky high, and so did Travis Epperson (Trajisto). Travis's friend (name?) also went to the E.R. early.
Congrats Ben!!!! you were flying man. Second open Pro, third O/A. NICE.
The most exciting part of the day was when Eric Brown who had the overall lead took his hands off the bars to give his pit crew the the thumbs up as he was heading out on the last lap and smacked dead into a tree. He was fine but he got passed by Beshaw for second place.

Yep El Gato,
This year at Snowflake was tuff on motors. My nephew Lance Palma (#500) blew up his KX 65 during his race. My son J.C. (#811) lost all his motor oil and locked up his clutch on his KTM pro jr 50. I blew up my KX 500 on the poker run. Thank god I took my KX 250 with me.

Thanks David,
I had a great time, I had to fight the dust for 2 laps following Mike Parks, but kept it pinned going out of the pit on the third lap, and finally got around him. By the fourth lap the course was getting torn up in the tree section, and the power line road. I thought for sure Dayton was going to get by me, but he was stuck in my dust.
Congrats goes to Kevin Eckels (Dbag) for putting together a killer ride, and a well deserved 3rd place finish.
We also had an injury in our group. Matt Scoutten (TANK) crashed and dislocated a finger, but is in good spirits.

What happened?
As I was slowing down for the infield turn before the jumps, it appears the lower seal on my shock blew out which in turn caused the remaining pressure above the shock piston to become an actuator driving the shock to full extend and me over the bars. As I went over I was thinking WTF, I went over so fast I didn't even have time to put my hands out, it's prob a good thing, they would have just gotten broken any way:(
The x-rays at Pinetop didnot reveal any broken bones but my shoulder is seperated and I'm scraped up n bruised. I'm going to try and get into see my doc today.
A special Thanks to all that took care of my bikes n stuff and helped load up Monday morning, I really appreciate it. :):):):):) It was a wonderfull sight to see them all locked up to the trailer.

Fisk,
I think I almost took you out right before check 2. I thought it was you. I came up behind you, and your rear tire bounced out of a rut then pitched to the left. I closed my eyes for a split second thinking I was done. You did a great job of saving it. Check 2 was right before the coblestone road as you are going through the trees.

Yo Ben,
Sorry for holding you up for so long, but i rarely look back unless there is a U shaped corner i can take a quick look(broken neck in grade 8 limits movement). Normally i hear the pressure but you are so light on the gas i can't hear ya back there over my 450. Raper/Jones was upset too but i guess thats racing. My previous 3 years in snowflake i had to deal with the same thing, so i feel for ya. But...
This was my best race EVER!!

First off I'm glad to hear that FISTFUll is not beat up to bad, he'll be back to blow my doors off another day[:0]. Rick had this race in the bag. I had the # 4 pill. By the first corner I pulled into 2nd place after # 601 Ron Edwords went down. I could see local rider # 621 David Garibay about 1/4 mile ahead but could not keep his pace. About half way through the woods section # 624 Rick ( FISTFULL ) caught up to me. I held him off til we hit the power line road where he made the pass. I ate his dust & watched him disapear[:0]. On the second lap, # 608 John Middleton caught me & made the pass just before the 1st check point. I held 4th & never saw anyone again intill just before completeing the 3rd lap. I saw Rick sitting up with several people attending to him so, I continued on in 3rd place to complete the race. This was a real bummer for Rick & I feel bad. My wife had him timed at a good 5 minutes ahead of me going past my pits. Rick had this race in the bag.

You see, that is why i joined this site. It makes ya faster!!
It was a bad weekend for injuries. I heard in the first race MC1-5 there as a broken femur and someone has a broken neck. I hope it wasn't really that bad.
Ouch! fistfull that had to hurt! too bad the reunion in the hospital didn't have any beer or there probably would have been a wheel chair race down the hall.
I saw #1 T.J on the side of the track looking board so i figured it must have been something internal. Good thing that didn't happen last year. Any idea what gave out? Oh wait.. i finished ahead of T.J.... Thats going on my resume!!! JK
You got to feel for E.B #43 that is totally something that would happen to me.
Congrats to all who finished and Phill for regaining the Points lead. What size jacket do you wear?

Yes Mike Parks, you were riding good. I was impressed every lap you came through right up near the front. Don't ever apologize for making dust though, that's racing. I've eaten a lot of dust and no one has ever apologized to me for it, and I wouldn't expect them too. Hell, I've seen guys dragging their feet to make dust, although I don't suggest it. I always use the dust to my advantage in long races. I'll ride to either side of a course so that the dust will drift over the course. When races are won by seconds, every little thing counts.

Thanks El Gato [8D] I saw U each lap and it pumps U up to have someone cheering for you. TJ was waving at me when I went by him & every lap I was thinking MAN I've seen him leaning on that # 1 plate in the middle of nowhere too often [V] Sucks she blew up on him.
WORSE dust race I can remember. I got up into the back of the pack of the 600's & did not see clean air until lap 3 after I passed three of them. Ben it was some one else U tangled with. My only close call was 1 blown corner & dodging a tree - thank god for my Scott Stabilizer because it saved me at least 10 times with high speed impacts with aluminum rocks! [B)] Hey a congrats to John Middleton for winning the 600 class. He started from Pill # 9 and ate some serious dust to get up behind Fistfull! What a fun race, a little on the fast side, but fun! I was finally able to put together a decent race. It didn’t hurt starting in the front with my buddy Ken Hughs who was just putting around the course do to a broken foot. The first lap was clean sailing no dust and no one in site. The second lap I had Birchfield #138 behind me, but I had good distance on him until a little miscalculation on the cobblestone road and he was gone! I then got to eat his dust for the third lap. The last lap was the most fun with Fuller #101 back there tying to make up as much ground as possible on me. Going through the pit area I could see #138 coming back on to the track just as I was setting up for the corner on the last turn. I found out later #138 ran out of gas a couple turns before the finish line, so we finished myself#110, Birchfield #138 and Fuller #101. They both got me on time , but it was a blast being able to race with them!
Ben good job you were railing !
Travis, sorry to hear about the oil mixing problem, I have done something like that before! I hope your buddy Tom is ok, I heard he got off really hard on the power line road.
#110 Dbag
I Practice like a Pro
Race like a beginner!
I got your busted up parts right here!
My YFZ450 is still in the shop getting desert suspension, so I raced the 310R (which I'm trying to sell) at Snowflake. It was hard to believe that at the end of a long sixth gear pinned stretch, I would always find someone knocking at my back door. Dust wasn't as big an issue this year, especially with the breeze keeping things fairly clear. I think five of us seven senior pros were all pilled together off the start. It took me most of the first lap to get around slyder, who started just ahead of me. I passed him at the entrance to the powerline road on lap one. In the meantime Kirk Schreier and Frank Zeiter tucked in behind me. I held them off for a little while, but I just couldn't out run them. I knew I should have swapped the 38T for the 36T.
Lap 3 it happened- I came in to the right turn on to the powerline road to fast and over shot the corner. I hit one of those burned trees and broke my left side spindle in half. The brake line and brake caliper are also damaged. The only think holding my wheel on is the lower ball joint and half a spindle. Fortunately Zack McKinnely was there at the checkpoint and gave me a ride back to registration at the end of the quad race. Thanks again Zack!
Great race though!
I believe those two big injuries were actually in the quad race- one broken femur and one broken back. I think I heard the back injury wasn't to serious though. I remember seeing a Polaris Predator upside down against a tree. I believe that was the femur. We went out on the course the night after the race and saw where that predator took a nice bite out of a tree.
My brother-in-law stayed out at the course until Tuesday. Late Monday afternoon, a storm came through and completely FLOODED the course. Heavy Hail to! It was so muddy his F350 4x4 would just spin. They had to wait until 9am Tuesday to make there way to the highway. The area just before the jump exiting the MX portion resembled a small lake.
Whiplash sent me the results for the article last night so I expect they should be up on the website soon. :D

Her's an E-mail I got from Jerry Kyle (#828) yesterday.
Well, this is good news. I hope a quick recovery for him (talking about Fistfulls diagnosis). My situation is
this. I have no break, but the damage to my foot is very bad. The swelling
is so much the cuts open and bleed. I have big blisters from pressure all
over my foot, and the bottom also. my knee is almost tweaked and it hurts to
raise my foot up. Did I tell you about the cuts between my toes ? They are a
mystery. My right hand is better but it turned purple as well as my elbow.
The lack of skin on my arm is the least of my troubles. Flies land on my
poor foot and it hurts too much to dare shoo them off. I'm sick of Martha
Stewart already. Also, I'm sore all over, which is normal, but crutches hurt
under my arms.
I'm supposed to go back to work Friday.... thats bull s**t.
This morning, I'm on the coach and Mary runs in the door and yells the house
is on fire at the cooler. Just imagine how I'm supposed to deal with that
problem. Things settled down a little.
I feel like a need to crawl under a rock. later jk

What happened to # 828? I heard he wadded it up & was part of the Showlow MASH unit.
He got his front wheel taken out from underneath him at over 60mphon a rocky road by someone in his class. He is really upset with that guy because they were supposed to be friends and he didn't even care to stop, he just left him there taking a dirt nap. I won't mention names because it's not my place, but he will definately be getting a mouthfull of roost next time I get a chance to lap him. You know who you are, and you sir are a coward. Jerry has never done anything to deserve that. People in his class are sore with Jerry because he has dominated the 800's since moving there from the 700's. They think he is sandbagging, but he is over 50 and that's the only requirement to enter the class. They got their wish, he is out of the series now.
ANYWAYS, Jerry wanted to thank the 900 rider who stopped to help him and his ride out of the middle of the course. Jerry was knocked a little silly so he couldn't remember a bike number, just that it was a 900 number rider. He also wanted to thank the sweep rider who helped him in, and the people in the pits who helped his wife load up and get on the road. THAT'S what racing is all about.

True, and you probably always will, but the ATV's are getting closer. Only six of you beat Chad's time (Chad pitted every lap) and Allen White actually posted a 30 minute lap on his last lap. It was Allen's first Whiplash race. Not that I'm trying to start anything though [}:)], I'm to old and fat to ride that fast.

Mr. Fisk,
Thanks for the good words. I was looking for your pit on Saturday, but good not find it due to the sea of people and pits. I will stop by for sure at the next race. I am glad the magic juice is working for you. I know what you mean by how bad it tastes, but it is better than the alternative!!

smartwater is a good brand, its something you can get at "Wild Oat's". It has natual electrolytes. A water that is even better yet, is "miracle water". Although expensive, two bottles has always gotton me rehydrated. I used to managed wild oats a couple of years ago.... I had a chance to try out a lot of the different waters, and they are worth it....

Just a little update on Jerry Kyle #828 from his crash in SF. This is the recent e-mail I got from him the other day;
I had a regular day Friday. Wheel chair and 27 kids. Friday night pack, catch a plane to ABQ New Mexico for a Sweetland wedding, that was rough on me. Got back late Sunday night. So, Monday was really bad. I got home early today because I'm too tired to stay in the class room to work.
I'm a mess. foot is bad, leg hurts, arm hurts, and Mary asked if I was going to hang it up. I'm not sure I would want to go through this kind of thing again. We will see. How is everybody else doing? later jk

Hope Jerry gets to feeling better, tell him I said hi and don't let those kindergarten kids get to him :)
I went to the orthopedic doc yesterday, class three seperation www.umm.edu/surgeries/shoulderseparation_1.html. For now we are going to leave it alone and let my arm heal up (my arm between the elbow n shoulder is really really sore where I landed on it), there is no damage to the rotator cuff, I have almost full movement but it's stiff. The doc prefers to not fix the seperation, as long as it doesn't cause me any pain. The problem being, if they screw it back together and the shoulder gets smacked again, it could do some serious damage to the bones, so I am going to listen to this doc and see how it goes. The doc said this is one case where, if surgery is needed there is no rush to get it done, it's not time sensitive.

Fistfull - Get better man [B)] so you can go to Searchlight October 18th & 19th. How is your bike [?] Thanks El-Gato on the Jerry update. Sounds like it was a nasty get off for sure :( Did he ever talk to the other racer yet, just curious. Some of the guys in my class told me the bike next to me on the start @ Snowflake almost took me out. Nothing intentional just twisting the grip a little to hard and sliding into my rear wheel. Never saw it of felt anything so it was all good. I never got a chance to see any results from that race because we had to leave early & go meet DPS to do the dead Elk report for my buddies truck. [B)] 708 was on my tail hard for the first two laps until I finally got some clean air on lap 3. The old girl was running good on lap 3 with no looking back by then [8D]

The bike needs a new rear shock, when I unbolted it from it's attach points, it came out of the bike in pieces, oil went everywhere [:0]
The only visible damage is to the muffler attach point and that's minimal.
I would love to do the Searchlight but I have doubts. I don't want to rush things and cause more problems with my shoulder.

Shoulders are a funny thing. I went down the week before Lake pleasant but was able to race. It still pops and hurts alot with certain movement but not when riding. I may have got lucky but may be a torn rotor cuff. Dr? naw. they always say just give it time.

Fistful-As I stated earlier I to Had a class 3 seperation recently, also from a crash. I started physical therapy 1 week after injury, continued it for 2 weeks and am now back to work (as a firefighter), 4 weeks after injury. I took my son for a ride around the block yesterday, and the shoulder didn't feel that bad on the bike. But I am probable going to stay off the bike for another week. The strength and mobility can back pretty fast. I'm not 100% yet, but it's coming fast. I do recommend some kind of therapy, though. At the very least consult a trainer or therapist about some streching and strength excercises.
Anyway you should be good to go by Wickenburg!
Happy Trails.

It's getting better every day, I havn't taken any pain meds today, not even Tylenol.
I didn't hit the top of my shoulder to knock it down, I landed on the rear part of my upper arm just below the shoulder. The impact area was/is deeply bruised and has been causing me the most pain.
I have been going to the doc, I will continue going and get the physical therapy ;)
Kneeling beside the track, after I crashed, I thought @#$% now I have to waste a lot of time sitting in doctors waiting rooms [:p]

Hey fistfull,
You will probably be able to ride before you know it. I seperated mine new years eve 2001. I waited 4 weeks the started to ride. It still hirt at times but never gave me problems riding except I was scared of falling on it. You may want to get a EVS shoulder strap. The only problem I have had is I skipped Snowflake because money and I didn't feel ready for 5th gear pinned yet due to a surgery last year.then I fell at speedworld Labor day weekend and seperated it again. At least now I know how to get it back in myself and finished my moto. Good luck with rehab.
