I hear the back section they add for Gran Prix's is pretty brutal. Big hill climbs and whoops.

Good Luck Ben. I talked to Eugene & Cecil @ Snowflake & they did it last year & got 2nd overall (I Think) Cecil trashed his bike in it but said it was worth it. The night riding portion sounded pretty scary but I'm sure U dial it in quickly. How did U get Metzger & the big boys OR did they get U [?] It sounded like they rode for less than 2 hrs each and got a four hour break in between. Anyway have FUN & watch that BIG up & downhill in the desert section.

I get to race against Metzger and the big boys. The team we put together is from Tucson, Casa Grande, and I'm the lone soul from Tempe.

We got our A$$ kicked! We entered the open expert class thinking we had a good chance. NO WAY. We raced against one KTM team who had Daryl Folk, Larry Roesler, and other fast guys. The dirt rider team with Ken Faught, Jason Webb, with others I don't remember. Dbag might be able to tell you more names, and also Steve Feld help me out here. Other than taking 7th out of 10 we had a great time. The track was awesome. By the second lap it was getting rough. The night rides were a blast! Some of the single track we rode was down in was over grown moist dirt, and at night it was cool to see how bright the baja designs were. We made some good consistant laps for the 24 hours, and were hoping we would catch a break, but that never happened. The only problems we had was Adam crashed hard, and broke a foot peg. All in all we had a fun time, and will race it again.

I have to say thanks to Kevin (Dbag) for going over with us, and keeping times, and doing a little riding.

Thanks to the team:

Jason Keys
Adam Johnston
John Conyer
Dave Vogt
Steve Feld

Well scratch anything about getting our A$$ kicked. I just looked at the results for the first time, and we finished 2nd in the open expert class. That is a total shock! We did 80 laps on a 8 mile course, and the winner of our class did 82. I guess that's what we get for not checking the results before we left.[:o)]

Riding at 11:00 p.m wasn't bad. It was the having to wake back up, and ride at 3:30 a.m that was the worst. I was on a Sunday cruz during that time.[|)]

The race was a BLAST!!! Such a high energy event with all of the big boys there. Our team included Adam Johnston, Jason Keys, JC Conyer, David Vogt, Ben Hutchinson and Myself Steve Feld. Adam got a great start with 10 teams in our Open Expert class by pulling third off the line. The race was just crazy, with temperatures reaching 106* in the day and falling to 64* at night. By night fall the top of Yamaha hill was destroyed and almost impassible. I stalled when I couldn't get passed two downed riders near the top and I had to ride back down to the bottom for a second attempt which saw me over the top with another two riders following me. After they made it over the top I was told that the hill was shut down for repairs and a short course was implemented for an hour and a half. This is where the scoring got all screwed up. That's why we thought we were stuck with seventh place. I knew we were in a higher position than that but... You never know, scoring had to be a nightmare. The single track downhill section in the back was treacherous and soooo destroyed by daybreak that you really had to be on your toes. We finished second in class and fifth overall. NOT BAD!!! We were the first KTM team (see the results) Our class had riders with the likes of Larry Roesler, Chuck Dempsey, Ron Lawson, Brad Daugherty, Ken Faught, Paul Krause, Dave Ondas, Nick Blais, Tom Webb, Scot Harden, Darryl Folks just to name a few. I'll be back!

Dave and Todd,

Sounds like we could get a good team together. I just know that I want to do the series next year. With all you old guys it would be a Vet team I suppose. That works for me. As it gets closer we should do some more planning.

I think this is Dave going up the big hill back to the single track. This is the hill they shut down at night for a while.

Todd sure can dish up the roost. He nailed me pretty hard up the single track at Pima and Dynamite a few months ago. It was like rain falling on me even seconds later. I was just sitting there minding my own business with my bike turned off and my goggles in my lap. BUT nobody knows TJ's rookie roost better than Mike Parks. He got the best rocket blast of roost I've ever seen on our Rocky Point to El Golfo ride last spring. TJ cut right in front of him at a good rate of speed on the beach and just laid it out. Mike literally rode through a solid wall of sand, it was pretty cool. Of course Mike didn't agree, but nobody asked him his opinion on it;). Everybody pays his dues with TJ.

You must first show up for a ride before you can roost me ;). Besides anytime you get a chance to ride with Ken Hughes he is the roost master, and doesn't even realize he is doing it. I think Dbag can speak also about this. I have had my fair share of welts from him.
