Alright, I may be retarded, but I can't find an entry form or even info on entering any of the bitd races on their site...I haven't e-mailed them yet though. Those of you that race in the series, how do you go about entering? How are the fees and competition in an expert class compared to Whiplash? I am just thinking about racing in some of those if it is not too expensive.
Also, what can we do to get more sports coverage for the Whiplash races?? I see racedesert.com has a little bit from years past, but not like bitd coverage.

The best way to go about getting an entry form is to give them a call. They are great people to talk to, and very helpful. They run a great organization. If you need some info it should only take a couple days to get here from Las Vegas. As for entry fees, they run much more than Whiplash. Most entry fee are 425 dollars. Vegas to Reno is 625, and I think Laughlin is 250 dollars. I would suggest finding some money sponsors to help the habit. The competition level is a step higher. Expect the expert classes to race like pro class here in Arizona. Most racers are from California, and Vegas, so they get lots of riding in through out the year. If you want to start with an inexpensive race start at Laughlin, but it is the most technical of the BITD series. I guess I should ask if you ride bike or quad? Laughlin is a bike only. If you are a two wheeler the race is February 27,28,29.
As for more coverage on races, I don't know, maybe David could shed some light on this one?

How this helps you out! BITD is a great experience, diffently try it.:D

The personal trophy girl sounds like a great idea!:D Maybe Casey will go for that? The entry fee sound crazy, but when you go to the race, and see how everything is setup, and the amount of people they have to help with these races you will understand. Last year at this time Casey Folks was setting up the course for Vegas to Reno, that was run almost a year later! He takes his time getting a course together, and is marked very well. When you register with BITD you get a member t-shirt, and an event shirt. They also have a packet put together with danger areas on the course, and what to look out for, a starting line up with all the teams, and sponsors.

It seems like the entry fee is only the start of the spending. With longer courses, a team of riders and more remote pit areas, the cost of running the race goes way up. You have to have spares and fuel at each pit because there's more than one. Multiple pit teams, more chase vehicles..more...more...more.

BITD sounds like great fun, but a big commitment.

A questions to the guys that do run BITD, what is your budget for support? How many spares do you have for a race?

One thing you have to remember is more team members = less money per person.:) Which is a good thing when you run the long races. The cost is not much more. You might have to buy 20 more dollars in fuel. And yes maybe two or sometimes three chase crews. When we go we try cram as many people in a hotel room as possible to cut down on cost.
For a bike we take at least on set of wheels depending on what bike we run. Vegas to Reno we took two sets, and two new sets of tires. I think our budget for Vegas was 400 dollars. If you call it that. 133 dollars per person is not bad, plus you have many people that go, and help out with the cost. One thing you guys have to remember, these are huge races, and the big boys show up to run, which brings in the big sponsors. You know the saying you have spend money to make money?

So yes this is a huge commitment! We are hoping to do at least three of the BITD races next year. We have to defend our titles in Parker, and Vegas to Reno.:)

It sounds like it would be fun.....bigger and better experience. What is the normal riders per machine in the 200 and over mile races??....can you have as many or as little as you want?....we do quads...i know there is no ironman for atv's.

We always rent the pit support. For Vegas to Reno a few years ago we had Montclair Yamaha do the pits for us and we used only one chase truck to run the riders pit to pit. For the Tonopah 250 we used two riders and it was no problem at all. We had Team Green do our pits and these guys are outstanding!!! I had a couple of bolts fall off the KX500 and they had the Loctited bolts spun in before the quickfil was empty. They supply the race gas and will change the parts RFN with air tools etc. They always have radios and stuff so you get all of the benefits without having to invest in scanners. They gave me a cold beer after I came in with my glove stapled to my knuckles by a Cholla. [:0]Cost is about $300.00. I think V to R was a little more.
Worth every cent.

Just my 2cent.

For quads-
Pro teams are allowed up to 2 riders
Expert and Am teams are allowed up to 3 riders
The entry fee is split up between you and your team mates, not per rider.
Many of the BITD races can actually be pitted with 2 trucks, leapfrogging up the course. If you have 3 riders, its better to have 3 vehicles. Vegas to Reno and Baja Mex will require atleast 3 chase crews. We usually keep one spare front and rear tire for each pit. If a truck is going to go to 3 pits, he has 6 tires total.
If you're racing a current production Honda quad, Honda will provide you pit help for a very reasonable fee. I believe this includes fueling you (they provide fuel) and transporting your spare tires. Never had a chance to do this though since we raced a 250R. This will be a big plus for those planning to race the new TRX450R. For the rest of us, there is Mag7 pit crews which will also fuel you at each pit for a fee.
