Ya no BS, I went scouting some areas "SMOKE" told me about thats right by my house US 60 at 204 & 207 well it was like 9:00p.m. and I missed the 204 pull off ( I did see a gate) wanted to see if it was open, I didn't have my quad with me or my truck I was in my wife's car so I proceeded down to 207 and pulled up and there was this mini van with 2 old guys like in there 70's messing with the gate with flash lights and all, and they asked me what I was doing, I turned it back on them and ask them what are you guys doing, one cocky SOB said closing up this "FRICKEN" gate and told me no more riding here, I did not see any signs or anything saying no motorized vehicles like at 201, maybe there with the State or something but no identification nor did I ask, I just got in my car and left, made the turn to head back home north on 60 to A.J. and seen a bunch of people loading up some quad's on the side by 206 on the side of the road maybe those old guys gave them the bad news too, they did look a little pissed ,or maybe tired. I hope Iam wrong and these old guys were just messing with me, but it seemed they were locking it up. I will be over there Saturday too check, I can't ride yet, wont get my permit until Monday. I would risk it and go anyway but one person could mess it up for us all and Iam not that DUMB I can wait. Want to get to know some of you and go riding with, but my quad needs to be broke in first (engine break-in for 10 hours) so no full throttle half only at least thats what the owners manual says, and then have to service it, my Quad hasn't touched the dirt yet, and Iam ready to get dirty. Just got back from the 204 and the 207 - both are open to motor vehicles. You just need to heed the signs and take the trails that are south and west. The 2 north trails are closed. No padlocks. 201 is closed. On the map I have from BLM the 204 and 207 are not marked for closure. Happy Riding!

I'm curious just who are these two mystery men in their mini van "Mystery Machine?" My next question would be by what authority are they "closing" the area to riding? I've been to the State Trust Land office downtown recently to purchase a permit and when I was there, the personnel at that office were actively and aggressively promoting the Desert Wells Multi Use area. They provided me with maps and information and were very professional and courteous. There are areas and trails that are marked no motorized vehicles. However, there is a tremendous area (more than adequate) that is reserved for OHV's.

I've been in law enforcement for over 20 years and when somebody tells me what I can and cannot do, I always question their authority if I don't know who they are. You should too. If they are not law enforcement or the property owner, who are they to tell you an area is closed? If you maintain a courteous demeanor, and the person legitimately DOES have lawful authority, they will not mind your inquiry. And, in fact, if they are with some authority, they will probably expect it. Whenever I have personal contact in any official capacity, it's always preceded by an introduction and a presentation of my credentials.

Desert Wells is a great area. We all just have to play by the rules, plain and simple. If we play by the rules, we'll be able to use the area for a long time. We all have a responsibility to ensure these rules are enforced. If for nothing else but the preservation of our favorite recreation!

I can assure you, if I ever encounter these two old guys in a mini van in Desert Wells, I WILL let them know who I am and find out who they are and what their interest is. If they are not legitimate, they are going to have some explaining to do. If I do identify these characters, I'll post my findings for your information.

Get your permit.

Follow the rules.

And, enjoy the heck out of Desert Wells!

Remember, if you're paying taxes in the State of Arizona, you have a right to use this land within the limits of the law.

I will now step off my soap box. Sorry:D

Probably the two "gentlemen" were ticked off because it was already 9:00pm...different things happen at night, more accidents, more drunks, more parties, more garbage, more reckless behaviour...I would imagine these guys are neighboring property owners, and just wanted a good night sleep??

To avoid this area being closed fill out and mail in that survey that is listed under "Pinal County Trails - your input needed". Get everyone you know to send it in - wouldnt it be great if 90% of the surveys they recieve ask for motorized trails??
