Join your Riding Arizona friends for the annual Turkeyweek Camp-n-Ride over the Thanksgiving holiday (November 26-30). Each year, the Riding Arizona crew hits the road for our annual Turkeyweek Camp-N-Ride and it has always been our goal to select a new spot each year to change up the riding opportunities for everyone.

This year, we have decided on Dome Rock, which is about 7 miles west of Quartzsite and 11 miles East of the State line. This is considered the La Posa area and provides outstanding OHV opportunities, however, you must stay on designated roads and trails. The area is well known for its beauty, and wildlife such as the Desert Tortoise and Big Horn Sheep.

What to expect in terms of riding:

Dome Rock offers many different types of riding. The riding skill level is easy to moderate. There are many jeep roads, ATV type trails, sand washes and hills. I would highly suggest gathering for a nice long day-ride over to the Ehrenberg Sandbowl for a day of fun. This would make for a nice long ride with all types of riding including some mini-dune action. There is tons of exploring to do at Dome Rock.

There are many mines and prospectors in the area so we will need to respect them by not disturbing their operations whatsoever.

It will be a great time with plenty of riding and the Official Friday Night Karaoke Party hosted by Gmoney and SteveB. You'll also enjoy great music and nightly campfire fun. If you’ve never attended our Turkeyweek trip, come see what you have been missing. It’s always loads of fun. Many attendees deep-fry turkeys and prepare their own Thanksgiving feast so plan accordingly.

Directions: Take I-10 West to the Dome Rock exit. Go left underneath the I-10 overpass and proceed to the left. The entrance will be about 50 feet up on your right. We’ll have some signage to guide you to our spot.


What you’ll need to bring:

· A great attitude!
· The ability to have a great time!
· Dirt Bike, ATV or any suitable OHV
· Sleeping, toilet and shower arrangements
· Food and Drink, ice and water
· Your singing voice
· Firewood

Like many, I have driven by the area many times wondering what that area was like. Hopefully, my family can make it. My wife's 400ex seized up during the Mayer Poker run and hopefully we will have it fixed by then. Also, we just sold our toyhouse and only now have a flat bed. We're in between buying either a larger toyhouse or a motorhome. Maybe we'll get that done before turkey day as well. The worst case would be to rent something for that time. Anyway, it sounds like fun and a chance to finally meet many of you that I read about on this site.

Hey gang,

Just got in from a weekend riding the Turkeyweek spot. Here is a brief report. All the photos will be arriving soon.

A buddy of mine (Arlan) and I rode a nice 23 mile ride on Saturday afternoon and then a 48 mile ride on Sunday. The temps were HOT on Sunday. The heat made the ride a little uncomfortable. Sunday's ride was called "The Hogback Ride." It involved heading southeast from 'camp' at Dome Rock and the hugging boundary of the KOFA Wildlife Refuge and the New Water Mountain Wilderness Area. The ride took us up through the desert mountains through Dripping Springs, back down to Tyson Wash and back to camp.

I rode the quad instead of the XR this weekend as this area offers some extreme exploring, that is most excellent on 4 -wheels. I became an official wussy when we encountered a walk-through Mine [:I] Eveything was okay until Arlan
said, "hey looks there's a bat," that was it for me [:0]

Anyway...we then stopped by the rock cabin. Interesting little cabin....inside were a manequin man & woman, food, water, guest book, signs, pictures and all sorts of crap. Fun to check out.

I will post up some coordinates for the rides so those of you with GPS can cover the rides. If you are bringing your two wheeler, Be prepared to hit some nice trails & washes over near Ehrenburg Sandbowl.

Just wanted to let everyone know that i have returned from the Ocean after eight months of messing with North Korea, and now am looking forward to this trip. It has been a long time between trips with the family and we can not wait to see everyone. I just got off the phone with Gmoney and have all the information i need to get things rolling from my end.
Let's just hope everyone stays in their own country and has a good case of shut the hell-up so we don't get called out again. My squadron is still on 96 hour recall. Again we look forward to seeing everyone and thanks for the support!!!!!!!!!

My ol'lady runs 3 retail stores in 3 different parts of the valley. That just so happens to be the biggest shopping weekend of the season. I would love to pawn my kids off on someone and drag HB out there. It's really a challenge to get someone to watch my kids for $600 a month on weekdays. Nobody in their right mind would take them on a holiday weekend...including me! Too bad I'm not in my right mind:(.

Cool! We're in, me and my wife CJ Rider, both friends of 3Banger. I think the only info we need has to do with off-road riding permits. But I'll call the links listed over in the Riders Guide and find out if we need anything special. We have OHV permits for CO but don't know if they're also good in AZ or not. We'd like to bring unplated 2 strokes (YZ and KX), but could bring plated 4 strokes if that would be better for the area.

Many have asked, "Where exactly is Dome Rock?" "How far is it from Phoenix" etc. So, Be aware that Dome Rock is located about 11 miles EAST of the California state line on I-10. The exit is Dome Rock EXIT #11 on I-10. Basically, once you get to Quartzsite, you'll travel another 6-7 miles west on I-10 and you'll come to the Dome Rock exit.

The area got the name Dome Rock from none other than us here at Riding Arizona. We named it that because the exit from I-10 is called Dome Rock and you can see the giant DOME ROCK from I-10. The area is actually called the La Posa area. After our first trip there, we called it Dome Rock, and the name kinda stuck. It's about a 2.5 hour drive from the valley. Stores, water, hotel and anything that you might need while you're there is close by.

I think we're gonna do a week long blow-out ride. Moab/Whitewash dunes/Utah Sat, Sun and maybe Monday (Nov 22,23,24) then do a drive by on the Grand Canyon on Tuesday and get to Dome Rock sometime on Wednesday the 26th. We'll prolly ride Dome Rock Wed, Thurs and Fri and then point the mother ship back in the general direction of CO on Saturday.

But, really, I hate havin a schedule... :D

As you know, the official Friday night Karaoke party get's underway at sundown on Friday evening. This year the party promises to involve everyone, even if you don't like to get up and sing. I will be distributing a raffle ticket as the evening begins, and we will raffle off some cool prizes throughout the night. Keep in mind, the karaoke singers will also be in the running for some REALLY cool prizes--so don't be shy. Just ask azotto :D He was a winner last year and took home a NICE Camelbak.

We are planning some fun stuff for the party this year. I have to ask a question...how many Karaoke singers might be interested in taking home their performance on CD? This may not be of interest to anyone, but it's something that steveb and me were discussing last night. Could be interesting...
