View Full Version : Dune Tire Pressure
I'd like to get some members thoughts with regard to tire pressure in the dunes. Two season ago I had an accident resulting in a broken "color bone" (long timers probably remember). Today I believe the accident was partially caused by poor tire pressure(low) during a sharp turn.
My question to all is - What tire pressure are you running on you backs/paddles as well as fronts? and do you vary this pressure based on hill racing vs. bowling.

I run 3 to 4 psi in the rears for basic soft sand bowl running- V-blade. The fronts run 10 (razor blades) This works real well for me. I will go up in pressure if the sand is wet from rain -which is rare - for less hook up. I use to run higher pressure for less tire roll but found the lower pressure hooks up much better. I also have used the $$$ paddles & the low $$$ paddles and found the big name expensive paddles a really not a bit better for two times the cost. Just my opinion..... I don't really care when I pull up if people see some BIG name paddles on my rides.....

After-all The last time you had anything at all to say regarding a DS was something about how badly a stock-one whipped your rapp-ing @$$ up and down "comp"; Or have you forgotten already. Don't worry if you have cause I'm always willing to give you another chance. Let say...... early Nov. maybe?

3 in front (Dunetrackers) and 3 in the rears. If you run a DS I prefer 5 PSI in the fronts.
Then again, you have to "tune" your pressure to your quad and paddle set up. If you are over-paddled, run more pressure. If you have excessive wheel spin, run less (down to 3).
If you want to be real finicky, the pressure changes through out the day. The sun can add 3 or 4 PSI in the afternoon. If you let the air out, remember to put it back in the next morning.

3-5 in the back... whatever in the front... spend too much time with the front wheels off the ground for it to matter too much :)

I run 4 lbs for front and rear on a Honda 400ex using STU Sand Skate II's in the rear and stock ones in the front. I've never had a problem at that PSI

Unless some steps up too the plate ill probably bring the mid size ds out!! to the hill.thats my favorite racer shes a stage three on nitro metanol with complete works suspension and trb a-arms and tbr 4+ swing arm with side winder titanium drive ststem.dual fcr 41's and a hyper air system with a vortex 10 program ing.12.5 on the compression and a 5.5 ims desert tank(you need that on nitro) with race cut plastics and if theres a rappy still standing ill make a very fast run back to the truck and drag out the BIG BIKE[:0]

"color Bone" strap only necesary if turning at the bottom of big bowls. For staight up hill just bring a tow strap so you can hook it on to the back of my ride as i go by ya.[:0]

Am I to understand it takes all that to beat a little ole stock Raptor up comp? What does it take to for a DS to beat a rappy up olds? JATO bottles? [}:)]:D Geez, I bet those are some kind of wicked rides.
Oh, by the way, my stock Raptor (other than gearing) seems to like 3 pounds in the sand Skate 2's. I weigh 185.

Hey, nice to see the sand riders are gettin' some play on the site. I love all the trash talk from JWalk1, I especially love the humility and shame back at the campfire after he's starin' at the back end of the Raptors all day ;).

anywhere from 1-4psi rear and 8psi in the front. But then again i am riding a light 2stroke.
Oh and too bad i am going to Glamis this coming weekend and then on Thanksgiving would like to watch the DS walk all over the craptors.
Then again if any of you go out for thanksgiving too i will probably get to borrow my buddies yfz450 for a couple rides then i could SPANK YOU ALL!
