Where are some good places to ride in the Phoenix area? Have been out of riding for about 12 years and would like to know a good place to get me and the kids started again. I used to ride at the Cave Butes Dam area (West of Cave Creek and Jomax), it is still open? Do any of you ride there?

Let me know.

Thanks.

I believe the Buttes Damn area is closed and has been for some time now. Phoenix is planning on turing the whole area into a preserve.

If you are still in the North Valley area, try Camp Creek Wash out by Bartlet Lake or the west side of I17/Table Mesa Rd(head down toward the Agua Fria river bottom).

Thanks for the information. I will keep looking for some spots in the NW valley.

There are a couple of "trail tracks", one is at 7th st and deer valley. entrance is on the east side going north on 7th. another is the "graveyard" 101-tatum, its another litl track with some pretty good sized jumps in back and a nice long mx style track.

I will check out the 7st place once my foot heals. I have never heard of the graveyard. Can you provide me with a little bit more detail on where it is located

all areas around 7th street and deer valley to cave creek are closed. you will be ticketed. i have heard by a few fellow riders that lives east of cave creek, that there is a undercover officer in a white ford truck or suv that will chase you down. next closest place that i can think of is i-17 north of happy valley road on the west side of freeway north of housing communities on access road.

I don't know any areas around 101 & Tatum that are legal to ride, either. I live near that area.

The Graveyard is a very nice place to ride. Just when you go there park in the back so that nobody can see you from the school. If you do that you should be able to ride there all day with no piggies.

This reads, to me, like it is NOT a "nice" place to ride.

If you need to worry about "piggies" then this is obviously NOT a LEGAL riding area.

Riding in illegal areas and off the trails will only give all of us and our sport as a bad rap AND eventually cost us the loss of many more riding areas.

Thanks Teri you took the words out of my mouth. I don't want the "piggies" having a beef with all riders because a small group chooses to "take thier chances" We are already fighting an uphill battle

I usually ride at I-17 and Happy Valley. But I was out by Pinnacle Peak between Tatum and Scottsdale and did not see any "No Motor Vehicle" signs on the north side of the road. I did some 4 wheeling on the north side and found some guys riding quads. I think you can ride back there with no problems. Always look for posted signs before you go riding and you shouldn't have any problems.

Go really fast down that hill. If anything gets in your way, turn.

Hi,

In the NW Valley area I like the Hieroglyphic Mountains OHV Area out on Hwy 74. You go west on 74 from I17. Sometimes this area is called Mile Marker 11.5. The dirt road entrance is on the north side of the highway and 4 to 5 tenths of a mile west of mile marker 12. You drive about a mile back on the dirt road to get to the large staging area. The entrance is state land, but you will see the BLM sign just before you get to the staging area. The trails to the north of the staging area are on BLM land. There are some great trails out there. Lots of climbs and descents, canyons and washes.

I live in the East Valley and usually ride at Rolls OHV Area, but the drive over to Hiero Mtns is definitely worth it.

If you have to worrie about being caught, then it is not ok to ride there Period!!

A good Legal place to ride is Tatum and pinnacle peak. From the 101 take tatum north past pinnacle peak to the phone line towers. turn right through the gate,go back in aways Park and ride :D State trust land permit is required.

It's been a little around a year or so but I used to ride the power lines east off Pima and Dynamite (Northeast Corner). Goes pretty far out there, actually an old jeep trail. Anyways, I made way back to the Verde river. If you go, "Don't lose site of the power lines if you branch off the trail". Good Times

I-17 and Happy Valley are now closed and off limits to riders. It was due to the parking lot rats who sat there and did donuts stirring up dust that would drift into I-17. So there goes another good riding spot down the drain.

This area you are talking about at Tatum and Pinnacle peak, Is it an easy ride. I took my kids out for the first time today at Happy Valley and 67th ave. This is the so called Bar run listed in the trail guide. Way too tough for the kids. Looking for nice easy first time ride.

This area is mostly flat and great for kids or begining riders. There is a section in the middle that has jumps also.

here is some pics of the area here

Hey a good ride is 10mile wash...go to scotsdale rd to dynamyte and head east till the end where it tees off go left and pay 4bucks then fallow that road till the end where you will go down by the verde river, the wash is right there you can ride it to bartlet lake rd its a fairly easy ride ,mostly sand and loose dirt with berms and whoops...it takes about 45min to an hour. if you walk ur bikes across the road and fallow that part down farther on the right when you see water fallow that up and there is a water fall.

You can also go park at the wash off bartlet lake rd and ride to the river, No need to pay 4 bucks that way.

For the record, the only land near Tatum & Pinnacle Peak that I know if that is NOT closed to riding is the state land east of Tatum, north of Pinnacle Peak. It is State Trust Land so you'll need a permit.

Please stay off closed land, and that includes north of Pinnacle Peak, west of Tatum and either side of Cave Creek. The "graveyard" has been closed for years.

These areas used to be nice places to bring families to ride, until they were overrun by inconsiderate idiots creating land damage and dust problems.

This is 4 per vehicle fee to enter and drive in to the Verde River. There is a sheriff or ranger there on Sat and Sunday taking your monies.

TonyAnger, A great riding area, with well marked trails and lots of them, is off Hwy60 at MM207(east, out past Gold Canyon). Its called Desert Wells. A state land permit is required. I was out there today for the first time. RICH

Ok 10 mile wash/verde river,
pay 4.00 bucks a vehicle at paystation (you dont have to pay for bikes/atvs), fallow that rode till end where you will drive down by the river (good fishing to for cats at night) its a great place to camp. especially under the mesquite trees, just watch out for skunks at night.
the washis right there when you come down the road by the river its on the left side. you can ride that all the way to bartlet dam road, if you cross the road keep going for a few more miles and on teh right look for water coming down a trail...when you see that go right there and fallow that till you cant go any further and then walk up along the stream and there is a little waterfall there that runs year round.
this is just some baic info

Tireman, The riding is flat desert riding with your occasinal wash to cross, in which there are some drops to deal with. Most of the trails all travel in the same general direction, so its not just a maze of trails criscrossing, just waiting for a crash to happen. The area runs from MM204 all the way out to HWY79(if thats the road south to go florence) and then south a hole bunch of miles. RICH

Desert Wells is getting popular since Ironwood closed. 207 is getting crowded , but there is a mini track at Gate 8 since it is closer to my house.
