This is a chance for some good member participation. We are triing to gather "accurate" gps coordinate for major land marks @ ISDRA. (i.e. camp ogilby radio tower).

Please do NOT go to another website for this, we know they exist. We want to be 100% accurate no room for error. So If you, yourself have been to a major land mark @ ISDRA and noted the coordinates maybe you could share your info with us.

This info will be used in an upcoming event.

I use a GPS at Glamis, particularly at night. I have marks for most of the major landmarks in the Glamis area (not Buttercup, not very many for Gordon's Well).

You express an interest in exact coordinates, most of mine are marked at the base of hills where people usually park which is not actually the location of the hill. Since they turned off SA it makes a difference. Is that what you are looking for?

O.k. here we go The spots of key interest would be;

Top of patton hill, top of comp Hill, top of k-12 (tallest dune out there), Glamis beach store, Top of Olds hill, anywhere along china wall, radio tower at camp ogilby, Plank road @ buttercup, Mexican blow hole (buttercup),top of test hill, Top of comp (buttercup),Cahuila ranger station (gecko road), Bridge @ entrance of dune buggy flats (gordens well), Osbourne overlook.

87lt250r; I'll be more than glad to let you take mine if it would help expedite getting this info. PM me later and maybe we can find away for you to take mine out there with you.

The name K-12 is incorrect. Back in 1995, I made up a map of Glamis using a Mapping service, (GPS mapping software for home use was Nonexistence). Well, the person that did the map called it K-12, which actually should have been called "K-2" it's a peak in the Karakoram Range of northern Kashmir. At 28,250 ft, it is the second-highest mountain in the world and It was designated K-2.
Ok, back to the story. In return for his services, I was to let him post the GPS map on his web site to promote his services. It wasn't a few weeks later I got a Nasty Letter saying, I was promoting Off-Road and the end of Nature Bla,bla,bla... and he was a major Supporter for the Sierra Club, and pulled the map. Although, I still see a copy of the map, floating around on the internet...

And here's a copy of that map... Please DO NOT use the Coordinates... The Waypoints were taken back in 1994, way before 12 channel GPS were in the market, and the SA was turned on...

How tall is K-2? (the dune - not mountain)

It would be interesting to start a GPS hunt for the tallest peak. If you think there is one taller, just post the coordinates and others can verify it.

The "water fountain" did exist and actually worked for a short time. It has since been removed, as has the "convoy". The "plane crash" is a burnt frame from a light weight spotter plane and is in the 'forbidden area'. (closed area)

I have a lot of GPS coordinates, including the "Mexican Blowhole", which is not as deep as it once was. I will get them to you next week, but I'm leaving for Olgiby tonight.
