View Full Version : Bloody Basin Rd.
On the way home from the trials at Alto Pit, a sudden urge to water some bushes prompted me to exit I-17 at the Bloody Basin Rd. I went east past the pavement and stopped at the info signs. The road was marked as "primitive, no maintenance" and there were the AZ OHV signs pleading for responsible riding. I believe this road will eventully get you to the Sheep Bridge on the Verde, but before then there must be some great 2 track roads. The main sign also indicated BLM management. Questions: 1)Can I ride in that area without being street legal? 2) Anybody been there, share a report? Thanks

The road will indeed get you to the Sheep Bridge, and you can even turn south before this point and go to 7-Springs via a main dirt road (FR 24). There is a road about 10+ miles in (FR 677) and goes north via 22 Mesa and comes out on the Dugas Road. There is also a road that goes south (FR 14) and takes you behind Joe's Hill. I am sure you probably need to be street legal to ride on the Bloody Basin Road.

We've run Boody Basin to Sheep's Crossing.
According to my map this is not a county rd. Nor is it maintained.
I would say no tags would be required (had none at the time we did it).
I can also say it is a long, poundin', beat yer butt ta death road.
Make sure ya have plenty of fuel.
We have also gone to Sheep's Crossing via Table Mesa to Bloody Basin Rd.
This is a more challenging route. Again, bring plenty of fuel.
Sheep's Crossing, excellent spot on the Verde. There's a hot tub there too.

The area you are talking about between I-17 and the Tonto NF border is the new Agua Fria National Monument. Bloody Basin Rd is maintained by Yavapai Cty up to the Horseshoe Ranch. If you ride responsibly, you shouldn't have any trouble. There are rangers that patrol the monument, so you need to stay on the trails and out of the river bottoms (riparian areas) and ride friendly (no racing).
If you want to ride that area, call the BLM for some rules of that area.
