View Full Version : Gordon's Well
I'm considering taking my 2 boys to the Dunes on Oct 9th -Oct 12 th. Has anyone been there during this time as I am considering the heat factor. We usually wait until the end of October or after. If possible would like to join up with other families as my wife must remmain home. Thanks, Shane
Shane,
Most people I dune with consider October to be to hot, including my wife and kids.
I on the other hand have had some great trips this time if year. And Gordon’s is the place to go. I love to ride in the mornings and evenings and spend the hot part of the day at the canal. Or Par-o- Dice.

we have been hitting buttercup for the last 3 weeks in a row..........pretty bad out there 3 weeks ago, but i can't remember breaking a sweat this past weekend....more and more people coming out there now. might as well beat the crowds for some pre-halloween duning!! the nights are awesome requiring a jacket or sweatshirt to go riding, and perfect with a breeze during the day.

Having recently moved back to AZ from SoCal, I have only ridden what I know to be called Glamis. However, I have heard people here in AZ call the Imperial Sand Dunes "Buttercup". Huh? Are there two seperate areas within the dunes thereby making both names accurate, or is this just a common dual-identity issue? Also, while I am at it: Where is Gordon's and where are the Cinders? For reference, I live in Glendale (Arrowhead Ranch area) Thanks one and all. :)

Buttercup, Gordans Well and Glamis are all part of the Imperial Sand Dunes. Buttercup and Gordans Well are just different camping areas further south of Glamis. You can see Buttercup right off the freeway after traveling through Yuma. It is on the south side of the road. Gordans is a few miles further west on the North side of the highway. The Cinders are located in Flagstaff.
Hope this helps.

That helps greatly...thanks a ton! I suppose I can reasonably assume that the riding and the facilities are similar/same as Glamis (Gecko)?

Thanks AZSand! I guess that about sums it up, although I will have to say that Glamis isn't as rowdy as it once was...and if they start nailing people with decible meters, it will be even less so. Gordon's Well sounds about perfect!
