Just got back from my first Dune trip this season. Other than being WAY TOO HOT It was quite fun. Maybe 100 people there total.
Some things of interest to everyone planning on going.
1) A Ranger said "you on the yellow bike you need to have a red or orange flag over your jolly roger"
He wanted me to remove my whip flag put a red/orange one over it and leave it at that.
2) the paper registration must be carried on the bike/buggie at all time when in ISDRA
Only 3 rangers out there yet 3 people in camp with me got tickets. They also "can not give out warnings anymore if we flash the lights and pull you over we have to cite you"
It seems that it would be in the best interest of all those that plan on going to Glamis to go on off weekends. There will be decidedly lees ranger coverage. I talked to two of the rangers that were out there. One was a NAZI the other was very cool.
Now onto the straight skinny of the dune action.
The YFZ450 rails all over ds 650's and craptors. However they can't touch a mildly warmed over banshee ( cdi piped jetted and cool head. It was also tired the next day it welded the rings together)
On my first dune run my bike crapped out. The kick starter fell off and the return spring in the case fell out or broke so my riding time was officailly done. (however i was able to limp it back to camp from olds) At least i got to climbs olds. It pulled the hill in 4th.
My buddy Robert did the following. (it was his first trip to the dunes.. and after the following display of ineptitude his first time doing more than putting around on flat ground)
Not ten minutes there he split his chin open on his bars.
The next day he rolled his bike on the way back from the Glamis beach store.(just bent his headlight basket and gave himself a great strawberry in the middle of his chest)
Am looking forward (in a morbid kind of way) to taking my clutch cover so my bike will be ready for the day after thanksgiving ride it will be going on.
Got a few pics of some dune jumping action i will post hopefully within a week.:D
