10/10/03 This is the last Full Moon ride of this season. We will meet on Friday night at 7:30 P.M. Behind Lake Pleasant. You take "Castle Hot Springs Road" until the pavement ends, then go about 1/2 mile till you reach the 2nd little parking area. We will Gear up and ride at 8:00 sharp! Most of us have decided to go ahead and stay the night in crown king. For those of you who want to join us you are welcome to just dress warm and you can crash in a cabin that we have available up there. It should be great riding conditions because of todays rain. Nothing else has changed. See you there!

awesome ride! first night mx ride for me, first time to crown king. talk about trial by fire!

tina and a bunch of crazy, hot riders, and it sure weren't the milk run to crown king. a little into the first steep tech climb over bedrock stairsteps i realized we must be going the original back way.

sure enough. it rocked though, one of the most fun rides i've ever had. everybody made it to the saloon and those who were staying the night indulged in a few pitchers and shots!

four of us rode home at midnight and until the last two miles all was well! the irony is that after riding all the tough stuff, i hit a drainage/erosion ditch that ran about half way across the main graded road. didn't see it on the way up b/c we were riding on the other side of the road.

where i hit it at about 40mph, it was about two feet deep and two feet wide. got partially up on the pegs when i saw it last minute but still i slammed my chest hard into the bars, held on (charlie was behind and couldn;t believe i didn't go down), and rolled to a stop 50 yards down the road. wind knocked out and severely sprained both wrists.

many thanks to charlie, michael and jack who had to get my bike loaded up. the drive home to sedona was rough to say the least.

as we speak my left wrist is in a half cast and although the initial xrays didn't show a break it may just be. more xrays in a week. vicodin and anti-inflamitants, and the couch for me for a few days. the right wrist is slightly better but they are both swollen like crazy.

kinda pissed, to have ridden my first night ride and done all the tough stuff only to get slammed on the main road!! oh well, s**t happens. thanks again tina and everybody for a great ride and all the help in the end

OH NO!
Sure glad it wasn't worse, but that's bad enough. I'll be hoping for "not broken" on that wrist. Hope you recover quickly.

Got lots of desert riding to do this winter. :)

Update: got a call today from the emergency room doctor who consulted a radiologist. much to my chagrin, the navicular bone in my wrist is fractured. damn, damn, damn!! seeing an orthopedic tomorrow for a full cast including the thumb. estimates are 10-12 weeks. oh well. so much for the beautiful fall in northern arizona. i guess it'll be winter in the desert before i know it. one of these days, gnj, we'll get to ride florence junction!!?

I was real upset when I read what had happened to Derek. I am so sorry! I saw your tracks going into that big hole Saturday afternoon on that road and I knew someone had hit it,I just did not know how bad it was. From the looks of your tracks it was bad. I saw that damn hole on the way up too it scared the heck out of me because I wondered how many more of them there was going to be. Fortunately that was the only one on the whole trail! Darnit I really wanted that ride to be a complete success story. All is fun and games until someone gets hurt! And Derek with that killer light setup and all. Tough luck.

Michael and Jack and I led the trip and when I washed out on that first rough hill I was gratefull for there aid in getting me off that bad angle. They were extremely good riders on there 650's I was impressed with how well they handled those big thumpers at night. They were perfect gentlemen thanks guys I appreciate the hand. Me being of the weaker sex a hand is always welcomed.

The ride back down the mountain for us Saturday was somewhat Interesting Tom CR500 did an interesting launch over the bars and all we could see was elbows and ***holes. In an attempt to pass Fred he flew over and Fred said all he could see was Tom flipping and flopping in front of his bike as they were both flying through the air. Thank goodness The only thing broken was a Clutch lever. Tom was a little shook up but he slowed her down and made it back to the truck. We had the ramp ready when he got there we waived him into the truck and he went up the ramp with no clutch and when he reached the top he slipped in some oil and slammed down again in the back of Freds truck. Definately a dramatic ending to an awesome ride.

you know, that's what pisses me off even more, tina. having just come back from baja and being totally on the look out for just that kind of erosion ditch after the recent hurricanes, i can't believe the ONE bit me on my home turf! i wondered too if there would be any and having missed that ONE on the way up, i was fooled into thinking there weren't any.

and there weren't many, just the ONE!! damn! i guess the concentration was flagging a bit at 3am so close to the end of the ride. that'll teach me!!

still, it was a great ride, and great meeting all of you. pure rockin' fun. glad tom survived his endo. if you talk to michael, jack, charlie, & fred, tell 'em thanks for all their help. hope we can ride again when the wrist heals.

Hi guys, I got an email from Tina on this forum so here I am. I am sorry Derek that your misfortune was that bad, you really hung in there! From my perspective it looked like it could have been much worse... Best wishes on your speedy recovery!

It was a great ride, my first up to CrownKing. Lots and lots of throttle twisting and hanging on! It was great to ride again with Tina, Shannon and Tom. (sorry I did not get to see Tom fly! hope he's ok...) And it was Great to meet four new fun guys to ride with:
Fred, Derek, Michael and Jack. I hope we get to repeat sometime.

until next time,

Charlie
:)

PS: Thanks to Tina for setting this ride up!
:D
