Anybody going to the "Run to the Pines" on the 18th? I am a solo rider on a DRZ 400S and have already signed up for the event but would like to partner up with somebody or a group for this ride. I am an experienced rider but would be more comfortable making this ride with some others. I'll even buy the first round in Prescott. Any interset please drop me a line!

Thanks,

Frank

Greg,

Yes 1 out of twenty four is not a good percentage! I heard back from another guy up here that is also signed up as a solo ride. I'll see if that works out but other wise would take you up on your offer. I lived in Tucson for over ten years. Out by Catalina Highway and Tanque Verde. I also am 40ish (44). Do these DRZ's have enough range to make the 137 miles on a single tank of fuel?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,
I've only had my bike a couple of months, but I believe we have a 2.6gal tank.I've gone a little over 100 miles on mine and I believe there are gas stops along the so the most we would have to ride is 90 miles or so.I think we'll be fine.

Hey Guys.

Don't sweat the Dual Sport mileage on your DRZ's. Here is the exact gas stop info for each day.

Day 1 gas:
TUFF ROUTE = 82mi to gas. EZ ROUTE = 93mi to gas

Day 2 gas:
TUFF ROUTE = 52mi to gas. EZ ROUTE = 37mi to gas

If you have any additional questions, please send an email to promoters@ohvfunruns.com

Thanks!

Attendance is steadily climbing for the October 18/19 Run to the Pines Dual Sport ride. We have seen a considerable number of post-registration entries, and more walk-ups are expected on event day.

There is still time to enter, including right at the Start Line on Saturday, October 18th. The walk-up entry fee is $90.

All entries receive:
- T-shirt
- Rollchart maps and other handouts (both days)
- Free water checkpoints
- Finish Line dinner
- Ticket for raffle prizes & promo giveaways
- One heck of a good time to yak about!

One of our route sections is only accessible when Lake Pleasant is at it lowest, like right now in October. So come on out and experience this once-a-year ride!

Hey Rich.

Stay in touch. Rumour has it an organized Dual Sport adventure in the Tucson neighborhood could be a possibility in the future.

I definitely would like to come down to your area and check out the Pima Motorsports Park and other riding spots. I will need a helpful guide such as yourself...

Cheers,

Rich,
Traveling down I-10 for a good ride is not a problem. I also have a 96 DR350ES and my DRZ400S. I like these bikes so much I kept them both. Keep in touch on rides.

Hi Frank. Road Weazel here. I'm doin' the Run Saturday and Sunday, it sounds like a really good time. I have a couple of friends who are riding with me, one on a BMW1000GS/Dakar and another on a new BMW GS650 Dakar. I'm not sure which bike I'm riding, it's either gonna be the KLX 400 (cousin to yours) or the DR650. You're welcome to ride with us although I'm not even sure which route we'll take. My buddy on the 1000 is getting some decent tyres before the run so he may actually opt for the Tuff Route, at least on day one. We may even split, with my two buddies taking the easy route and myself takin' the Tuff route (I'm a glutton fer pain). Either way, you're more than welcome to hook up with us. My buddie's Dakar 1000 is white/red and the 650 Dakar is blue/white/black(?).
Cheers!
Colin

Colin,

Thanks for the offer! I found another guy that was riding solo also and am planning on riding with him. I plan on taking the tougher route on this one and see what it is like. If you wind up splitting from your group I am riding a blue Drz and my ridng counter part has a Honda XR 600. The more the merrier! See you there.

Frank

Wow, a full 10% of our pre-registered "Run to the Pines" Dual Sport riders are from out of state (California & Texas).

We think it just awesome to have the support of these riders, and look forward to putting on one heck of a Dual Sport adventure for everyone to enjoy!

Greetings All.

We just wanted to let everyone know how much we appreciated your support for the first OHV Fun Runs Dual Sport event.

There were 51 participants from all over the Western states (Colorado, Texas, California) and we really enjoyed meeting all of you. We made some great new friends and also got reacquainted with folks we had not seen for awhile. Thank you to everyone who came, saw, and conquered.

The Tuff Route surprised some, but was still not enough of a challenge for others. Whatever your case, we are sure it will be remembered by all who rode it. On Day 1 there were 35 riders who took the plunge and motored over the rocks to complete the TUFF Route. Hopefully there was the opportunity to stop and smell the roses along the way as you passed through some truly magnificent scenery. We are not sure who (if anyone) also took advantage of the single-track options we provided. Hopefully, a few of you did.

On Day 2 the EZ Route was the overwhelming participant choice. We are not sure if this was the result of sore bones and muscles from Day 1, or just the desire to see the “other” side. In any case, this route provided a great “cruise” opportunity and allowed for a more relaxed pace. Again, the scenery was awesome and we certainly hope everyone had the chance to look around a little.

Was it all fun and games? No, there were problems with the route sheets, which caused many participants to get confused and turned around. We do feel very badly about the route sheet errors and have learned greatly from the experience. A route sheet which is inaccurate not only frustrates you, it makes our jobs that much harder too. Just ask the Sweep Crews who did not get into Prescott until 10pm Saturday night. A complete and accurate route sheet is now priority #1 for future OFR Dual Sport events.

Overall we do feel this was a good event. Based on your feedback, it seems that more organized Dual Sport events would be appreciated. We do have some ideas in the fire already and will keep you informed of any dates as they are confirmed. If you have additional comments or suggestions, please let us know via email at promoters@ohvfunruns.com as we would like to hear from you.

Thanks again for you participation in the inaugural “Run to the Pines” Dual Sport Adventure.

Sincerely,

WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PICTURES?[?]

The Dual Sport pictures are online at the OHV Fun Runs website http://www.ohvfunruns.com/photos.htm

They are reduced to "thumbnail-size" for quick display, so click on individual pics and they will display full size.

If any of you Dual Sport riders have some of your own pictures on the trail, we sure would like to see them...
