I just bought a 2005 21' Rage'n toy hauler. We love it but the generator (Onan Micro Quite) was louder inside the toy hauler than out. We went to home depot and bought a hard rubber door mat and some silver sided insulation board. After the rubber mat was installed the noise reductin was significant! The insululation only made a very slight difference. Now its much quiter inside. $10.00 mod I thought I would share.

Thanks -- I was thinking about doing something like that on mine. Now I know it will make a difference will probably get it done sooner.

I was going to suggest that you could probably redirect the exhaust or add a quieter muffler but it seems you have found an easier and cheaper fix. :D

I was on submarines and sound isolation was one of my aux duties. In civilian life, they actually make sound/vibration proof rubber gaskets/grommets that even take out turntable vibrations. Also most car audio shops sell rubber sound mats for car trunks with 5,000 watt woofers so the car doesn't vibrate apart. You know when you hear the license plate buzzing. Check with high end audio shops maybe $20 bucks and already have glue on the high density sheets.

I put the mat under the gen. It is the kind of mat that is used in kitchens and bars. It has the holes through it but is still heavy material. It's also not so dense as to carry the vibrations and sound to the body. I was suprized at the difference. I cut out for the exhaust after it was installed. I had the room from the bottom to work. There is also three bolts holding the genset and mat in place.
