Not sure what you mean by exact coordinates but the GPS will show you exactly where you are at with relationship to the geographical area you are in. It is a mandatory tool if you plan on doing any distance riding. Much easier to use than maps.

i memorize the maps with intense research. looking at the areas as quadrants beween roads. all trails crossing these quadrants from point A to point B.
id hate to have my gps go dead and have to use my map for TP.......
i use my gps for a speedometer, and to figure gas mileage.

Only problem with maps is that not all roads/ trails are on the... forest service keeps removing them hoping people won't travel on them and tons of the trails were never on the maps. FS doesn't even know where they all are and with less and less money, they will never figure it out.
And if you ever get caught 20 or 30 miles out in the dark, navigation by landmarks and other recognizable things kinda goes to crap especially if there is no moon...... you could probably navigate with a compass and a map if you had a flashlight but I'd bet 99.9% would not have a clue where they were or how to get where they wanted to go.
The technology is so good now and so cheap that there is not a good reason to have one if you do real off road stuff. the nice thing is sharing the tracks and getting tracks from others for places you haven't explored yet even in different states... lots of clubs and people on line have tracks available along with trail descriptions etc.
Turning right at the 'big tree' and left at the 'big house shaped rock' just doesn't work anymore.

My GPS is plugged into the accessory on my Quad, it's illuminated in the way after dark hours and water, sun and dust have no affect on it. I use a map on every ride I do,...it is an exact print out of my planned route that is on my GPS.
Very difficult to read a map in the dark while riding.

why is it the only times im racing daylight is on your rides?
id like to become a gpser someday. i have the etrex junk model that isnt capable of computer interface. so its only for where ive been.....once ive been there i dont need the tracks.
i think steering stabilizer, rekluse, go pro, self levelling cup holders, heated handlegrips, are all higher on my priority list. likely in that order.

When you never get out of sight of your truck, you probably don't really need a GPS

The reason people here are telling you to get a gps is because once you have one they can send you 'tracks' which, when downloaded into your gps using computer software, will show up on the gps screen as an actual colored trail that you can follow while out riding. With someones tracks you can follow exactly where they rode and having this ability will open up an entirely new world within our sport for you. Some of the best areas I have ever ridden were the result of tracks that were sent to me from other riders. These areas were also not on any maps for me to discover on my own. A gps simply lets you share in the wealth of knowledge out there pertaining to different riding areas. Oh, and it also gets you back to your truck if you ever get totally lost. Take these guys up on their offer, get a gps and have them send you some awesome tracks

I have never had that problem. I do forget to carry spare batteries sometimes.
