Trail Guide Guide Lines

The Trail Guide is an attempt to provide a uniform look and feel to the trail information posted on the Riding Arizona site. It will allow you to post a trail with or without GPS information. It is important to note the input form contains fields with RED asterisks, those fields are required.

Although you can post a trail with or without GPS information, when you do post with GPS information you will be required to upload a GPX file format. To do so you will need to use a software called EasyGPS. You can download the RidingArizona custom version of EasyGPS for FREE. EasyGPS provides support for the GPX file format as well as support for the vast majority of GPS units on the market.

You can also (highly suggested) upload your topographic software's file version of the GPS information. This will provide a short cut to other members already using your software package of choice.

If your software's version is not present, simply use EasyGPS to load the GPX file into your GPS unit and then download the information from your GPS unit into your software package. We encourage you to create your software's file version of the GPS information and upload/post that file on the trail.

If you decide to upgrade your EasyGPS to the ExpertGPS version, please use the following link, which gives Riding Arizona credit for the sale. All proceeds from sales will be reinvested into further development of the GPS Waypoint Exchange.

Download Expert GPS

In order to be compatable with the majority of GPS units.

  • Waypoint names need to be limited to 6 characters.

  • A maximum of 500 waypoints per file

  • A maximum of 30 waypoints per route

For Example:

You can upload any topographic software file that is supported. The trail input/view form will give you the available file types. The first file type listed is required to post any GPS information on a trail. Currently, it is set to GPX.

The GPX file format is supported by the latest version of EasyGPS/ExpertGPS. The custom RA version of EasyGPS is the latest version.

Let takes Warr Dudes post of the Table Mesa Rd to CK. He uploaded two file types, GPX and TPG(National Geographic). If he were to only attempt to upload the TPG file on the trail, he would get an error because he did not include a GPX version of the file.

Lets say you use MapSource. You would download the GPX file format. Use EasyGPS to upload the GPX file into your GPS unit. Then download from your GPS unit into MapSource. You then will likely save the information in MapSource format. If you do so, we encourage you to go into the view page of the trail and upload your MapSource version to that trail. This way the next person with MapSource can just download the MapSource version.
